Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has thrown its weight behind the Competition Authority UOKiK in its investigation of the new DTH platform nc+.
In a statement signed by its head Jan Dworak, the KRRiT says that the unilateral changes made to the contracts of Canal+ Cyfrowy and ITI Neovision customers – nc+ was formed by the merger of their respective platforms Cyfra+ and n– did not take into account the needs of those customers and the social expectations and the pluralistic use of electronic media content.
The KRRiT therefore supports the UOKiK’s decision to launch an investigation into these actions.
It adds that the KRRiT recognises the need to build a consumer market for pay-TV services that offer a greater choice in programme packages, as well as allowing individuals the choice in what order to receive programmes.
The KRRiT also refers to the Anty nc+ Facebook page, protesting against the new DTH platform, which has in only a short time secured over 65,000 followers.
The news of KRRiT’s action comes as it has been reported nc+ has now spent PLN14.7 million (€3.6 million) on an intensive media marketing campaign.
It began two weeks before the platform’s official launch on March 21.
