Al Jazeera is planning a five hour window for the UK market, the news broadcaster’s director-general Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al-Thani has confirmed.
Speaking to the French news agency AFP he said the new channel would be known as Al Jazeera UK and would broadcast in prime time on the English language channel that opened in 2006.
In addition to its distribution on Sky and Virgin, Al Jazeera has a 24 hour channel on the DTT platform Freeview.
Al-Thani also said Al Jazeera was studying the possibility of a French language channel.
Al Jazeera Balkan opened in 2011 and there are also plans for a Turkish channel.
Al Jazeera debuted its Arabic news service in 1996.
