March 15, 2013 07.10 Europe/London By Robert Briel

ABox42 M12Karlsruhe-based ABox42 is launching its M12 set-top box for operators for new OTT, interactive, IPTV and content services.

The M12 enables service providers to deliver new IP-based TV content and services, upgrade existing customers and create new business models. The M12 is powered by Broadcom´s BCM7231 IP STB platform and delivers a full suite of internet-based frameworks and applications to support the delivery of OTT content and IPTV services.

The ABox42 software platform supports out of the box all major OTT/IPTV standards. The browsers support HTML 4, HTML 5 with CSS3 and CE-HTML and the compatibility to industry leading application environments like HbbTV 1.1, HbbTV 1.5, OIPF (Open IPTV Forum) and Apps from the new Smart TV Alliance.

The media player supports all leading streaming formats such as HTTP Progressive Download, HLS, Smooth Streaming, Bit band Streaming, DivX Plus Streaming, IPTV multicast combined with secure DRM system like DRM 10, Play Ready, Secure Media, DivX and Verimatrix (under development).

Among the new technologies and services the company will show at this year’s TV Connect in London are: MPEG Dash streaming for most advanced applications; advanced error correction technology from Motama’s RelayCaster, which can significantly increase the quality of service in IPTV multicast environment by reducing the packet loss; fast channel switching (<0,5 secs.) for OTT TV; and SaaS services for software life cycle management and monitoring devices deployed in the field.

The M12 software platform already runs over 100 OTT applications such as VoD services, catchup TV services, online video recording, IPTV/OTT free TV as well as OTT pay TV services and web-browser functionality.

“Based on our three years experience in the consumer electronic market with set-top boxes and running more than 100 OTT applications on our STBs, M12 is our next generation, low-cost platform for the OEM market”, said Oliver Soellner, VP business development of ABox42.

“The M12 platform is the ideal solution for all operators, who want to have their own STB product without any worry about technology and want to avoid project complexity at all. Our platform is retail and end-user proven and extremely easy to develop.”
