CTC Media expects to sign transmission agreements with the Russian
Television and Radio Network (RTRS) for the two licences it has secured on the country’s second DTT multiplex sometime this month.
In its latest set of results, the broadcaster says that according to the terms of the tender, which 10 channels including its CTC and Domashny won, CTC Media must enter into a 10-year transmission agreement with RTRS and negotiations are still ongoing.
Each channel on the second multiplex will have to pay $26 million (€20 million) annually in transmission fees, though in the transition period these fees are expected to be lower and will be paid in staged repayments.
CTC Media says that although a tender for the third multiplex will be held at the end of the year, the terms of participation are still unknown.
Russia’s transition to digital broadcasting will see the switch off of analogue signals on a regional basis between 2014-7.
