Poland opens DTT tender

December 28, 2012 13.17 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has announced a tender for four frequencies on the country’s first DTT multiplex.

Applicants for the frequencies, which are being vacated by the public broadcaster TVP, will be required to launch a socio-religious, movie, educational-discovery or kids (aged 4-12) channel.

The competition is also open to broadcasters who already hold a satellite licence for such a channel and wish to extend its coverage.

The closing date for applications is February 23, 2013 and licences will be valid from no earlier than TVP’s licence for the frequencies expires and no later than April 27, 2014.

The first multiplex is currently occupied by a mix of TVP and new channels, while the second is allocated solely to commercial stations and third is reserved entirely for TVP services.
