The US-only Disney Movies Online service is closing on December 31, the company announced on its website.
The service offers online access to dozens of Disney movies, both cartoons and real life action pictures. As Disney Movies Online is only available on computers, there is no access possible via smart TVs or connected devices such as games consoles or dedicated boxes such as Roku.
“Disney Movies Online does not have the flexibility that many users today demand,” the company said in a statement, “We made a business decision to close the service until we are able to provide the greatest value and experience to our customers.”
The service was also used as the place for customers of so-called Disney Combo packs with Digital Copy. However, owners of Digital Copies can be transferred and watched from either iTunes or Windows Media Player.
People who would like a refund for the movies they purchased or upgraded on Disney Movies Online have to send an email to get their money back.
