Orange Polska comes under pressure

October 25, 2012 08.36 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Orange Polska ended the third quarter with a total of 695,000 subscribers to its TV services, or 72,000 more than a year earlier.

Of these, 578,000 (506,000) received DTH and 116,000 (109,000) IPTV services.

Furthermore, 146,000 (143,000) of the total opted for pay-TV packages, with 69,000 (7,000) opting for n packages.

Across France Telecom’s territories as a whole an additional 849,000 subscribers were added on the year. Principally in France and Poland, but with contributions from Slovakia and Belgium. Orange now has 5.7 million TV subscribers.

The Polish incumbent saw a sharp rise in its triple play take-up, up almost six fold from 32,000 in Q3 2011 to 191,000 in the third quarter this year.

Group ARPU for triple play meanwhile amounted to PLN54.9 (€13.3) in the third quarter this year, slightly higher than the PLN54.1 posted in the same period in 2011.

Orange Polska claimed a 45.9% penetration (in households) of the B2C broadband market in Q3 2012, its broadband subscriber total of 7,052,000 being 173,000 higher than a year earlier.

The group’s total revenues in Q3 amounted to PLN3,473 million (-5.5% year-on-year), with the fixed line segment accounting for PLN1,917 million (-4.0%) of the total.

Group EDITDA was PLN1,323 million (-5.7%) and net income PLN307 million (-18.6%). However, excluding tax relief, the latter showed a 14.1% increase year-on-year.
