Ziggo is inviting customers to take part in the first field trial of its cloud TV services called Ziggo Interactieve TV 2.0.
The operator demoed the service with ActiveVideo Networks at this year’s IBC in Amsterdam. Ziggo is the first major European service provider to deliver an advanced VOD user interface entirely from the network cloud.
The pilot is restricted to three models of Humax STBs (the 5100c, the 5200c and the 53000c) and one Samsung (the C7140).
The test is the first phase of introduction of the new Cloud TV services from Ziggo, which will make interactive and on-demand possible for owners of existing cable tuners.
The operator has a retail policy for its hardware with consumers buying their own equipment rather than leasing it from the operator, as is the case with UPC.
