Alticast and Icareus in Polish HbbTV tests

September 24, 2012 11.17 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Two leading companies involved in the development of HbbTV have participated in trials with the Polish public broadcaster TVP.

Alticast and Icareus were both involved in the tests that used the Alticast middleware solution and the Icareus CS100 playout carousel.

“Our middleware solution supports HbbTV because we believe it will continue to grow in importance across Europe as the industry looks for a standard that can truly unite traditional broadcast TV with the new wave of services delivered over broadband,” said Thomas Jung, CMO, Alticast. “It’s exciting to be working with such a trusted partner as Icareus to trial out HbbTV services in Poland and we’re really enthusiastic about the positive results. Connected TV’s march continues as consumers crave more exciting experiences and we fully expect HbbTV to play a huge part in this trend in Europe and beyond.”

Alticast’s middleware solution, AltiPlatform, is used in over 20 million devices worldwide, including set-top boxes, smart TVs, mobile phones and portable embedded devices, Blu-ray Disc players and personal computers. Icareus’ Playout CS100 Carousel allows the building and supervision of high quality value-added television services by multiplexing data in real-time.

TVP has been working through a number of test applications including news, weather and sport, the Euro 2012 soccer championships and most recently the Olympic Games.
