Following a recent firmware update, all Philips smart TVs now have access to adult VOD services, except for viewers in Germany and Turkey.
Private and Hustler, two providers of adult video content, have made their first smart TV apps available on the Philips Net TV platform, according to an announcement on the Philips blog.
Just recently, Philips provided all of its smart TV sets with a firmware update, which made it possible to offer age-restricted content in apps.
Private and Hustler are now the first two content providers to take advantage of access to smart TV sets. Owners of Philips have to actively download the apps; they do not come pre-installed.
Both content providers are charging for access to their content. Hustler and Private are each charging EUR6.95 for pay-per-view or a monthly EUR19.95 subscription fee.
The service is not available in Germany and Turkey, due to local regulation on adult VOD content.
Notably absent is French adult provider Marc Dorcel, who announced at this year’s MIPTV in Cannes it would offer content to smart TVs. Most erotic entertainment providers are keen to tap in on the adult VOD market, as was apparent during the MIPTV.
UPDATE. marc Dorcel said it will launch on Philips and Toshiba connected devices in August.
