Samsung has launched the BBC Sport app for smart TVs, enabling viewers to access the BBC’s interactive coverage of major sporting events including Wimbledon and Formula 1.
The app offers live streams, on-demand video and additional content. During Wimbledon, the new smart TV app will offer a range of alternative coverage options including additional matches/games, choice of audio commentary options, stats and rolling highlights.
During the British Grand Prix, viewers will gain full coverage of practice and qualifying sessions plus extras including on-board cameras and the ‘driver tracker’ that shows where each car is on the circuit. Throughout the Olympics alone, the app will deliver 2,500 hours of content and up to 24 simultaneous events including audio options, and medal tables.
“We’re delighted to be providing our customers with the best range of sporting content via our Smart TV range. Whether you’re a tennis enthusiast or keen to see who steps up on the podium in Formula 1, the BBC Sport app will keep Smart TV viewers up to date with the latest action around the world,’’ said Robert King, VP of consumer electronics for Samsung UK and Ireland.
The BBC Sport app will sit alongside BBC iPlayer on the Samsung Smart Hub and will join a growing collection of sport apps available on Samsung Smart TVs including RedBull TV and The Football app.
