Danish telco TDC has achieved its best ever quarter for pay-TV, its cable and IPTV platforms adding 37,000 subscribers between them.
YouSee was able to add a large antenna association to its portfolio, while TDC TV (HomeTrio) was able to capitalize on the switch of the first DTT multiplex to MPEG-4 and the move of commercial channel TV2 to basic pay.
Teracom’s DTT pay platform Boxer has already attributed its success in Q1 to the TV2 move.
The number of VOD sessions in Q1 rose more than 400% on Q1 2011 and YouSee has seen a strong pick-up in customer usage of its iPad app.
Basic TV revenues within YouSee increased by 7.3%, TV2 increased its carriage fees, but this increase was passed onto consumers through a price rise. This was generally accepted, though the company notes there is some evidence of a spindown to cheaper packages.
YouSee recorded gains in the saturated broadband market and has also managed to hold down churn.
Gross profit at YouSee increased by 4.9% or DKK 31m compared with Q1 2011.
