The Polish competition authority UOKiK has given the go-ahead for the cable operator Multimedia Polska to take over Stream Communications.
In a statement, the authority says that its president concluded the acquisition of a 100% stake in the latter would not have an impact on competition in the marketplace, adding that it investigates all cases in which the combined turnover of both parties in a proposed deal exceeds €1 billion worldwide or €50 million in Poland.
Multimedia Polska is the third largest cable operator in Poland after UPC and Vectra and may also be shortly sold.
Stream Communications, on the other hand, is the country’s seventh largest cable operator with 100,000 subscribers.
Established in 1999, it has seen several changes of ownership, the most recent of which saw it acquired by the unlisted company MNI Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of MNI, in March last year.
