UPC Netherlands has launched its first social TV application: TV Buzz. The web application has been built for PC and tablets, but can also be used on any smartphone.
Entering similar territory to Zeebox, TV Buzz shows users at a glance what’s buzzing the most on TV in the Netherlands, in other words, the TV programmes that people are chatting about the most on the social networks. This is realised by measuring the tweets and posts on Facebook, Twitter and Dutch social website Hyves during a live broadcast.
“If you’re curious why a certain show is ranked number 1, just click on it and see the most recent buzz gathered on the page. The buzz is refreshed every 15 seconds. If you login via your own preferred social network account, you can post a message saying that you’re watching a program, add your personal remarks, invite your friends to join the buzz and see what your friends have to say about this or other TV shows,” said a spokesperson for UPC.
Viewers can also see a top 10 of TV programs with the highest social score of the last week.
The TV Buzz application will soon also be available for other UPC markets and be integrated in all new and existing UPC platforms and applications. Other TV features will be announced in the months to come.
