The Riga District Court has rejected a claim by the Latvian Performers and Producers Association (LaIPA) against Izzi, one of the country’s leading cable operators.
In a statement, Izzi says that the court noted the Law on Copyright gives those represented by the association the right to receive fair remuneration but not the right to ban the use of phonograms or performances in broadcasts.
According to Izzi board member Sandra Kraujina, the tariffs offeredby the LaIPA have been too high and unfair and the operator is open to further negotiations “in order to reach a common point on the fair and reasonable tariff level in a peaceful manner.”
Izzi is backed by the Luxembourg-based company Contaq Latvia Cable Holding and had around 120,000 subscribers as of the end of last year.
