TV was a notable highspot for Deutsche Telekom in 2011 as the company posted a quarterly loss of €1.34 billion following writedowns in Greece and the United States.
Customers to the Entertain TV service increased by 34% to 1.6 million with the new Entertain Sat, which only launched in September reporting early gains. 97,000 of the 177,000 new Entertain customers in the fourth quarter opted for the new satellite-based version of the product. It is available to around 75% of the country.
Telekom is building a satellite platform to run alongside all of its IPTV services in Germany and internationally.
The TV customer base in Central & East Europe has increased to 2.6 million, but subscriber numbers have come under pressure from the current economic climate.
