Sporting Telenet, the dedicated sports channel from Belgian cable operator Telenet, is expanding its programming.
The aim is to attract new subscribers. As of last September, Sporting Telenet had 172,000 customers, up 50% from a year earlier, when there were 117,500 subs.
Last year, Sporting Telenet and the broadcaster VTM together acquired live football rights to the Belgian Jupiler League for €55 million.
This season, Sporting Telenet is showing three main matches live per week, and next season the broadcaster will have access to all Jupiler League games on a non-exclusive basis. Telenet’s competitor Belgacom TV holds the rights to another five games a week, which it will share with Telenet from next season onwards.
The expanded programming also consists of a daily magazine programme, documentaries and a weekly talk show.
