Lovefilm has secured the rights to a number of popular UK TV series through two separate agreements with BBC Worldwide and ITV.
The subscription video on demand package from BBC Worldwide includes some well-known titles from recent years including Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Spooks and Planet Earth. The package builds on previous agreements between Worldwide and Lovefilm, now owned by Amazon.
The renewed deal with ITV brings recent series Marchlands, Above Suspicion, as well as classic crime series Prime Suspect and Inspector Morse and much loved British dramas such as Cold Feet and Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Lovefilm and rival Netflix have been entering into a war by press release following the latter’s stated intention to launch in the UK and Ireland. A BBC Worldwide package was announced by Netflix in December and the company is known to be in advanced talks with ITV.
