DIGITAL TV SUMMIT – 2011. A customer study undertaken by Orange has found that smartphones complement TV viewing while tablets compete with TV sets.
What is more, smartphones are used as a device to kill time and tablets to save it.
Commenting on the study, which was undertaken in France, Poland, Spain and the UK, Dominique Rougié, director of TV interactive Services & Media on line, Orange, added that 10% of those polled who used smartphones increased their usage of TV.
Furthermore, 28% of tablet users streamed video on demand and 35% watched TV. Purchase activity was also higher on tablets than smartphones.
Rougié was speaking in a panel discussion entitled Multi-screen TV rights and consistent delivery.
