APPSWORLD – LONDON. Freesat will be evolving its platform strategy over the next 12 months in the areas of second screen technology and apps development, according to James Strickland, director, product and technology development.
He added that the company is looking at companion devices as an extension to its platform.
Charlotte Reece, senior product and commercial manager, interactive TV, Virgin Media, meanwhile said that the operator entered the sector by launching a small number of apps, including eBay, Twitter, iPlayer and YouTube and subsequently moved on to OTT video.
It now plans to build an app store, which it will see as a revenue generator.
However, she also conceded that Virgin Media was “probably a little behind” in developing companion apps.
Giovanni Martini, senior researcher, Telecom Italia, said that the company had recently launched a web TV service named Cubovision.
It had also begun to work with a production company on the development of an app for a TV show.
