Record loss for TVN

November 11, 2011 08.30 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s TVN had a difficult third quarter underlined by a record loss as negotiations over its future ownership continued, with the performance of its TV operations, including the DTH platform n, one of the few highlights.

Its president Markus Tellenbach has meanwhile revealed that despite the recent agreement with Canal+ Group the company has no plans to sell its successful one.pl portal.

Platform n ended the third quarter with 858,000 subscribers, up 119,000 year-on-year, while ARPU rose from PLN60.3 (€13.7) to PLN61.4 over the same period.

The pre-paid service TNK’s customer base meanwhile rose from 279,000 to 311,000, with take-up of HD clients strong, and ARPU growing by 35% year-on-year.

Pay-TV revenues overall rose by PLN26 million in Q3, up 16% year-on-year, and TVN’s total revenues in Q3 amounted to PLN566 million (+6%).

Although EBITDA was also up (PLN107 million, +6%), a net profit of PLN61 million in Q3 last year was translated into a record loss of PLN357 million in this year’s third quarter.
