Six Dutch local TV stations are currently testing the connected TV app Regio TV on LG’s Netcast TV sets.
OLON, the association of local broadcasters, has joined forces with 24i Media to develop a connected TV platform for its members. A pilot with six local stations will go live in November.
The Regio TV app will allow the 133 local TV stations in the country, mostly run by volunteers, to offer connected TV services including catch-up TV and interactivity.
Regio TV will also become available on connected TV sets from Philips (and the other Net TV partners) as well as Samsung. It is envisaged that in the future streaming to tablets and smart phones will also be possible.
