Dutch telecoms operator KPN is set to introduce a live TV service for iPads in the home this September.
Although KPN has not published any details of the new service, a flyer distributed by KPN to ‘selected nerds’ describes the new service as offering live TV across the home, so you can watch TV “on the toilet or in the bath, in the attic or outside in your hammock.” This indicates that the live TV signals are distributed using the local Wi-Fi router. 20 channels will be available.
The new service is part of KPN’s push to position its TV service as the most advanced in the country. Just recently, the operator launched its network PVR service which allows people to record up to six programmes simultaneously.
On June 30, 2011, KPN’s IPTV service reached 416,000 homes. (The picture shows the iPad app of France’s Freebox IPTV service)
