Cyfrowy Polsat profit falls

May 16, 2011 11.32 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The leading Polish DTH platform Cyfrowy Polsat ended the first quarter with 3,469,696 subscribers, or 230,000 more than a year earlier.

The number of MVNO users meanwhile increased by 91,000 year-on-year to 120,000, of which 97% were in post-paid, and the number of internet users by 30,000 to a total of 36,000.

The number of subscribers to Cyfrowy Polsat’s Family/Premium package stood at 2,726,000, up from 2,608,000 a year earlier, while those receiving the Mini package rose from 632,000 to 744,000 over the same period.

The churn rate stood at 11% (10.4%) for the former and 7.8% (3.7%) for the latter package. Family/Premium package ARPU meanwhile rose by 3.8% year-on-year in Q1 to PLN43.6 (€11) and that for the Mini package by 7.5% year-on-year to PLN11.4.

Cyfrowy Polsat’s revenues in Q1 amounted to PLN411 million, up 9% on a year earlier. EDITDA was meanwhile PLN124 million (+1%), but net profit down 11%, wit a bottom line of PLN76 million, due to higher costs of amortisation of set-top boxes leased to customers.

However, the latter figure was better than had been expected.
