Up to 43 million people in Russia will be able to receive DTT signals by the end of the year, according to Sergei Ivanov, the country’s deputy PM.
Speaking at a board meeting of the Ministry of Communications and quoted by AKTR and Tass Telecom, he added that by 2015 viewers will be able to receive at least 20 DTT channels, some of which will be in HD.
Although DTT coverage may indeed increase significantly in Russia this year – as of the end of 2010, signals reached some 15% of the population, or just over 20 million people – there are some doubts as to whether the country will complete the transition to digital broadcasting by the planned date of 2015.
