The Belgian competition authority (Raad voor de Mededinging van België) has said it agrees with the market analysis of the broadcast market by telecoms regulator BIPT and the regional media authorities VRM (Flanders), CSA (Walloon) and Medienrat (German speaking part).
The analysis was published last December and called for an opening up of the Belgian cable market. The cable operators involved are Telenet (for Flanders), Brutélé (in Brussels) and Tecteo in the French and German speaking parts of the country.
The four regulators have put forward proposals to open up the country’s cable networks with regards to analogue cable television, digital television and broadband access. Following the approval by the Belgian competiton authority, the proposals now have to be considered by the European Commission.
