The launch of the new Digital+ on demand service has given a new year boost. An additional 10,662 subscribers were added to the pay-TV platform in January compared to a loss of 15,137 subscribers during the same period in 2009. Canal+, which now has additional distribution on the Telecable, Orange and Ono, attracted 18,806 new subscribers. The new Canal+ Liga has 912,453 subscribers.
The rise comes at a critical time for the Prisa TV-owned platform, which faces competition from the new pre-pay start-up Starmax HD.
ARPU of €41.64 is largely unchanged on the €41.49 of 12 months previous.
In a statement, Prisa TV placed much of the success of the iplus PVR and its newly introduced hybrid capabilities. The iplus is already present in 319,381 households, representing 18% of the subscriber base. The iPhone and iPad applications have already received over 167,000 downloads with 56,000 logging in via their PC.
