The German monopoly commission Bundeskartellamt has told private broadcasters ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL Deutschland they have serious doubts about the creation of a common web TV platform, reports Financial Times Deutschland.
Both broadcasters confirmed to the newspaper that the regulator sees serious competition issues should the channels launch a common web TV platform along the lines of Hulu in the US. ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL had planned to build a common platform, which would offer viewers free access to advertising supported content such as news, episodes from TV series, movies and entertainment.
When the two broadcasting groups presented their plans, they invited all other private broadcasters as well as the public ones, to join the platform. At the moment, each of the two groups has their own online TV platform, RTL with RTL Now and ProSiebenSat.1 with Maxdome.
