CABLE CONGRESS 2011 – LUCERNE. UPC Polska will have the ability to offer 3D VOD in the next couple of months, according to Simon Boyd, the company’s chairman of the board.
Speaking exclusively to Broadband TV News, he added: we can do 3D channels now, but the content isn’t there. In the near future, a lot of 3D content will be VOD. We are already doing HD VOD”.
He added that nearly all the operator’s digital subscriber base already has access to VOD, with the figure set to rise to 95% of the total by the end of the year.
Commenting on UPC Polska’s plans, Boyd said that in the short to medium terms it will focus on the integration of Aster (a decision on whether the deal is given the go-ahead by the authorities is expected by the end of this quarter) and developing its video product, adding more on demand and improving the channel line-up.
He also said he expects to see more consolidation in the Polish cable market, especially amongst the larger players but not necessarily this year.
