The Romanian incumbent telco Romtelcom’s plans for this year include the launch of a new TV platform.
Without providing any further details, the company’s CEO Yorgos Ioannidis said the platform would make its debut soon, adding that Romtelcom “will continue expanding online options for customers, who by now had results above expectations.”
Romtelecom has identified its priorities for 2011 as “more efficiency and innovation in offers to customers”. To this effect, it will be reducing costs and shedding up to 1,400 staff, while at the same time focusing on the development of its TV and broadband services.
OTE-backed Romtelecom currently operates DTH and IPTV platforms under the Dolce brand name, as well as a cable company named NextGen.
Together they have just over one million subscribers in a pay-TV market in which RCS/RDS and UPC are its biggest competitors.
