Mobile TV is off the agenda in Ireland after the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) said that the spectrum “was not the subject of particularly strong interest to potential operators.”
Only Vodafone Ireland responded to the latest consultation period, agreeing with the regulator that it should not proceed with a licence award.
The move brings to an end a process that began in 2008 and was expected to lead to the award of VHF spectrum in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.
A number of trials had taken place in Ireland, including O2’s 2009 test of the DVB-H technology, and one by 3 some two years previous.
