Belarus is making good progress in its transition to digital broadcasting despite having fixed the ASO date at a still distant 2015.
According to data produced by the Belarusian Radio-Television Broadcasting Centre (BRTPC) and published by Interfax and Satkurier, DTT signals covered 93.48% of the country as of the beginning of this month, compared to 60% a year earlier.
The first DTT service in Belarus was launched in the capital, Minsk, and environs in July 2005 and by September 2009 all major population centres were covered.
Belarus currently has a single DTT multiplex that employs MPEG-4 compression.
