Dutch regional public broadcaster L1 from the province of Limburg has announced it will cease its satellite distribution on December 31.
The Limburg broadcaster launched its satellite distribution on July 1, 2005. As part of a number of cost cutting measures, L1 had now decided it will drop satellite. The broadcaster’s radio and TV channel will remain available on cable (both analogue and digital), as a free-to-air channel on the Digitenne DVB-T network and as internet streams.
The move follows the announcement of that another regional broadcaster, Omroep Brabant, will abandon satellite distribution because of the costs involved. Other Dutch regional broadcasters are still weiging their options.
