ADB is to supply Canal Digital with a hybrid personal video recorder for its satellite service. The Telenor-owned operator will deploy the ADB-5720SX, pre-integrated with ADB’s Carbo interface.
Already deployed with a number of other operators, Carbo offers super-fast channel change, and clear, simple menus. Rather than multi-layer menus, Carbo uses a carrousel of icons to help viewers reach their destination.
In addition to satellite-delivered high definition channels, Canal Digital also offers subscribers a selection of on demand content, brought in through the internet. “The specification for this solution was very demanding as Canal Digital has high standards for the viewer experience it delivers, but that’s just the kind of challenge we thrive on,” said ADB CEO François Pogodalla.
Earlier this month Canal Digital announced plans to deploy the TiVo technology, but if the Virgin Media £199 pricepoint is anything to go by, the STBs will be a premium product.
