Brightcove has introduced distribution and synchronization with YouTube, Apple HTTP streaming for the mobile Web and apps, and new advanced analytics for Adobe Flash and HTML5 video into the fifth iteration of its online video platform.
The company says its customer base now counts 2,300 media publishers across 50 countries.
“Consumers today are surrounded by an increasingly fragmented landscape of devices and destinations, which present publishers with exciting new opportunities, as well as challenges,” said Jeremy Allaire, Brightcove chairman and chief executive officer. “Brightcove 5 helps remove the complexity of online video publishing and distribution across multiple devices and touch points, accelerating productivity and unlocking additional value.”
Among the new features the Enhanced Mobile SDKs for both iOS and Android underlines the increasing importance of mobile video at a time when straight mobile TV continues to flounder. Brightcove 5 also introduces a functionally complete Apple iPad reference app.
Also of note is the new YouTube Sync that will automatically push content to the Google-owned video sharing site and update any changes that are later made to designated videos.
