IP & TV Forum – ISTANBUL. Deutsche Telekom is bullish about the prospects for its IPTV service, which, according to Marc Schwarze, the company’s senior manager product – marketing IPTV, should end this year with over 1.5 million subscribers.
Schwarze said the majority of the service’s had cable before and those that could cancelled their cable subscriptions. He also listed a number of USPs that have helped Telekom’s IPTV service grow so quickly. They include the ability to view one channel and record another at the same time; 10 Mpbs upstream with internet access at speeds of 50 Mbps and a huge VOD library consisting of over 10,000, over 1,500 of which are in HD and some in 3D.
When questioned, Schwarze dismissed overdependence on the Bundesliga, which Telekom has exclusive IPTV rights for.
He also said that it is integrating OTT content in special shops and looking to cooperate with content providers.
