Leading suppliers including Cisco, Netgear, Technicolor & Ubee have been given EuroDOCSIS certification by Cable Europe Labs. The approval of next-generation embedded multimedia terminal adapters (eMTAs) and cable modems underlines cable’s commitment to delivering the latest technology to its customers.
“Our close cooperation with the wider vendor community means that we literally have a hand in making Europe go faster with speedier kit,” says Cable Europe Labs’ Managing Director, Malcolm Taylor. “Europe’s goal is connections of 30 Mbps and up for all Europeans by 2020 with half European households subscribing to connections of 100 Mbps or higher. We’re already there in technological terms and hammering away to make these goals a reality for more Europeans who can access our fibre-powered ultra fast broadband networks.”
EuroDOCSIS defines interface specifications for cable modems, cable modem termination systems and embedded cable modems within a DVB-C set-top box involved in high-speed data communication over Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) networks.
The equipment has been put through its paces in the technology labs of Excentis in Ghent, Belgium.
