Romtelecom believes its aim of overtaking RCS/RDS and UPC to become the leading provider of pay-TV services in Romania within the next three years is realistic.
Speaking to the International Herald Tribune and quoted in ZF, Ovid Ghiman, the telco’s executive director of strategy and development, said that the target of becoming the market leader also applies in the provision of broadband internet access.
He added that Romtelecom plans to offer HD channels and additional services on its DTH platform Dolce. It will also increase internet access speeds on both its IPTV platform and NextGen cable networks.
Both the IPTV platform (Dolce Interactiv) and NextGen will be expanded, the latter by targeting acquisitions amongst the 500 or so smaller cable operators in Romania, which together account for around 16% of the market.
Ghiman refused to comment on whether or not Romtelecom would also target Digital Cable Systems (DCS), which operates a DTH platform and cable networks under the Akta brand name.
