Leading Portuguese pay-TV operator ZON is to screen two World Cup warm up matches involving the national team in the 3D format.
The matches against Cape Verde on May 24 and Cameroon on June 1 will be the first captured in Portugal using native 3D technology.
The matches will be available on channel 270 that has been used for other 3D broadcasts such as the recent Augusta Masters golf. Viewers will of course need a 3D ready TV set and will also need to have either the Zon Box HD or its PVR counterpart.
The experiment is being made in partnership with the Prisa-owned TVI, which owns the broadcast rights, and manufacturer LG.
TV sets will be installed in public spaces like ZON’s network of shops and several other demonstration locations.
With the “cinema-like” True 3D technology ZON is claiming leadership in pay 3D. Earlier this month IPTV platform Meo showed coverage of the Estoril Open tennis in 3D.
