Eutelsat and The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) have signed a partnership agreement to invest in and operate a new high-capacity satellite at Eutelsat’s 25.5 degrees East position, which serves the Middle East and North Africa.
The new satellite will be launched at the end of 2012 and follow on from the Eurobird 2 satellite, currently in the same location.
The TV market, in particular, will benefit from the installed base of over 13 million satellite homes already equipped for DTH reception from the neighbourhood.
Eutelsat and ictQATAR plan to place an order for the satellite by the middle of this year.
