UPC has accused its competitor Digi of double standards and says it will use all legal means to ensure it respects the law in Slovakia.
The Liberty Global-owned company is critical of Digi laying overground cables in Bratislava, contrasting the situation with that in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, where it has complied with legislation passed in 2008 requiring it to lay underground cables.
Digi is owned by Romania’s RCS/RDS and has a presence in several CEE countries including Slovakia, where it has some 45,000 cable and 260,000 DTH subscribers.
UPC believes that by failing to respect Slovak laws regarding cable infrastructure Digi is saving on investment and thereby gaining a significant competitive advantage.
