The DTT platform Freeview has announced that it is now present as the main TV service in 10 million UK homes.
According to the platform, its recent growth has been boosted by strong sales across the board and the recent switchover of thousands of homes from five-channel analogue to digital TV, with the vast majority opting for Freeview as their main set.
It has also been helped by strong Freeview+ sales, with sales expected to reach 2 million by this Christmas.
Freeview is performing particularly well in parts of the country where ASO has already been completed. In the West Country, for instance, 80% of analogue homes chose Freeview as their main set, compared to 12% Sky and 8% Virgin.
Freeview HD’s technical launch will go live today (December 2) in London and Manchester. It will launch a Freeview HD box next year, allowing viewers to access subscription free HDTV on their screens.
