Penthouse launches three HD channels

October 3, 2009 19.30 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Mipcom 2009 – Cannes. Penthouse is scheduled to launch no less than three HD channels in Europe on October 5, 2009, the first day of Mipcom. The channels will broadcast from the Eutelsat Eurobird 9A at 9 degrees East.

Penthouse’s technology partner General Satellite will broadcast the three HD channels, which will be available in full native HD.

Penthouse HD is a soft core (erotic) channel, Penthouse HD1 the first hard core (adult) channel and Penthouse HD2, the second HD hard core (adult) channel, with offset programming from Penthouse HD1.

Major distribution carriage agreements, targeting the majority of European platforms including cable, satellite, IPTV and hotels, are expected to be finalized by the end of 2010.

Jacky Wauters, CEO of NOA Productions, which is marketing the three Penthouse HD channels in Europe, said in a statement, “Sales of HD hardware including HD televisions and HD enabled set-top boxes have been on the rise for quite some time in Europe, resulting in high consumer demand for top quality HD programming. The Penthouse brand, known by everyone everywhere, is perfectly positioned to capitalise on this critical market share.”
