UPC Ireland has launched a nine-channel HD bouquet on its Chorus-NTL branded cable networks.

BBC HD, Discovery HD, History HD, National Geographic HD, National Geographic Wild HD, Crime & Investigation HD, Eurosport HD, Disney Cinemagic HD and Biography HD can be added for an additional €7.50 per month with the precise line-up dependent on which programming tier has been selected. The cablenet is said to be quietly confident that it might later be able to add the Sky-branded channels. The existing Cisco-manufactured PVR is already HD compatible.

“Nearly half a million homes are future-proofed to receive Chorus-NTL HD services. Our Digital+ service enabling viewers to pause, rewind and record live television is performing well, with over 70% of new customers opting for the service,” said Simon Kelehan, Head of TV, Chorus-NTL. “Combining Digital+ and our new HD service provides our viewers with an incredibly intense and vivid viewing experience across a range of channels.”

Kelehan added that next year would see the launch of the long awaited video-on-demand and catch-up TV services.
