ANGA CABLE 2009 – COLOGNE. German cable operators report a growth of 200,000 new broadband homes during the first quarter of the year, bringing the total number to over 2 million.
During 2009, the combined German cable companies will invest over €700 million into their networks, enabling broadband access and triple play services. The effort will bring state-of-the art cable functionalities to about 90% of all homes reached.
The fast growth rate of cable broadband customers is mainly due to the attractive pricing, the fast speeds and the increase in areas where broadband access is available, according to the cable association ANGA. In many regions, cable is the fastest growing broadband competitor to Deutsche Telekom.
Pay-TV is also growing fast, according to the association, with over 1.7 million cable households now subscribing to premium services. The amount surpasses the number of Premiere subscribers on cable.
