The inauguration of President Barack Obama has helped CNN break a series of records for its online content. By 3.30pm (US ET) yesterday (January 20) CNN.com had served more than 21.3 million live video streams globally, breaking the all time daily streaming record of 5.3 million live streams set on Election Day.
CNN.com is estimating that 1.3 million concurrent live streams were delivered at its peak, immediately prior to President Obama’s inaugural address.
CNN also used its team of iReporters to help create a 3D view of the exact moment that the 43rd President took office. Using the Microsoft technology known as Photosynth, images captured on mobile phones, cameras and other mobile devices were identified by minute similarities and then fused together.
