CNBC is to disappear from Canal Digital’s cable and satellite homes from December 31 and will no longer be carried on the Thor satellite.
A spokesman for CNBC apologised for the change and confirmed the channel would be removed because the two parties were unable to reach a commercial carriage agreement. “Viewers are still able to watch CNBC through cable and IPTV operators across the Nordics. The channel can also be seen through the live streaming service on CNBC Plus,” he said.
Speaking to Broadband TV News, Canal Digital spokesman Geir Holen did not rule out the possibility of a future return for CNBC: “We’re always looking for new channels that are the best for our viewers, so you must never say never.”
CNBC is currently working with hotel groups while its business-to-business team is speaking to the financial trading floors. A message advising viewers of the change is being regularly displayed on the on-screen ticker.
In Norway CNBC remains available on the Get cable network, Sweden’s Com Hem and Denmark’s YouSee also continue to distribute the business channel. Satellite coverage remains on Viasat, distributed from Sirius at 5 degrees East.
