BT Vision added a further 58,000 subscribers on the quarter taking the IPTV service into a total of 340,000 households. At the same time BT said the number of new customers in the quarter that had chosen to take one of its subscription packs stood at 83%, up 3 percentage points from the last quarter, and almost three times as many as last year.
In September BT launched a new high definition movie service, including blockbuster titles, from NBC Universal. Titles are priced at £2.95 per film with no requirement to buythrough to one of the subscription packages.
In a tough day for the communications company, BT said it expects to have cut 10,000 jobs by March 2009. 4,000 jobs have already been lost. The firm announced an 11% fall in pre-tax profit for the July to September quarter to £590 million (€721.35).
