Telenet grew both revenues and digital subscribers in the nine months to September 30, 2008, but intense competition in the Flemish market meant the cablenet lost 62,000 basic cable subs year-on-year. The loss of 31,000 subscribers in the first nine months of 2008 was in line with company expectations.
While the cablenet fights it out with IPTV and satellite services, its existing subscriber base continues to enjoy Telenet’s digital services in increasing numbers. 128,000 digital subscribers have been added so far this year, bringing the total to 519,000, and representing a 53% increase since September 2007.
On demand continues to grow in popularity and although the Olympic Games returned a significant number of viewers to linear TV during the third quarter, the total number of transactions grew by 76% year-on-year.
Total premium television revenue generated by both digital and pay-TV customers reached €56.3 million for the first nine months of 2008, up from €45.9 million for the same period in 2007.
Revenues of €739.40m increased 7% on the year, delivering EBITDA of €369.8m, an increase of 10%.
