Matthew Postgate has been appointed as the controller of BBC Research and Innovation, moving from controller of the BBC Mobile Team, where he has been since May 2007.
Postgate will be responsible for shaping and leading the BBC’s research and innovation activities, developing a strategy to deliver a digital broadband Britain, in the lead in to the next charter period.
Welcoming him to the post, Erik Huggers, director of BBC Future Media and Technology, said Postgate had a proven track record in delivering innovative work to the division.
“As all the PSBs prepare to tackle the technological complexity of the digital age, it is critical that we ensure research and innovation is at the heart of what we do. This will not only enable us to fulfil our commitments set out in the Creative Future agenda, reach our audiences on an increasing number of platforms but also continue to develop industry-wide platforms and technologies.”
During his time as controller of mobile, Postgate has been responsible for the relaunch of BBC Mobile and the roll out of BBC iPlayer on the iPhone and iTouch as well the first download version of BBC iPlayer on the Nokia N96.
